Knitters Without Cats

I just set up this simple page which will feature knitting work posted on flickr.com, by fellow knitters without cats. Knitters Without Cats.

Anyone without a cat can go to flickr.com and post to the group there, and the images will show at the googlepage. I’ve got a corresponding store at Cafepress as well.

Update: April 2012 Tagging your photos “knitterswithoutcats” and “kwoc” on flickr.com and ravelry.com is the way to go. Plus I set up a group on Ravelry for us. We tend not to have too much to talk about as that which unites us is that which we don’t want to mention, so the groups and tags are all about surfing project photos without cats lolling (pun intended) about out them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

“Crap, I Got Governor”

Here’s the basic problem with politics: anyone that actually wants to be a politician is exactly the kind of person you do not want in charge … of anything. Simply put, wanting to be a politician should disqualify you from being one.

From both sides of the fence, liberals and conservatives, who would want to go through all the baloney a person has to go through to get themselves elected? Clearly a person would have to be mental … or a narcissist, as evident in 95% of our political offices.

So here’s my solution: we get people for political office the same way we get people for jury duty.

For each office we get a random sample of the electorate, maybe twenty or forty people, send them summons for the office they qualify for, and they have to report for candidacy. It will hark back to the days when holding a public office was considered a civic duty, and not power trip it has become. Yeah, some people would try to get out of it, but there would definitely be some worthy players who never would have gotten the chance otherwise.

The media would love it, “Summons Day” would be like a carnival for them, running all over the voting districts trying to have the first interviews with the people selected to show up for duty. The voters would be able to vote from a complete cross section of society, for better or worse. We’d have debates between opinionated old women and their frat boy opponents. The people in charge would be as diverse as the constituents. And I’m talking about every office, from mayor, to state representatives, senators, even the president – ten randoms from every state, we could find a good candidate out of that pool of 500. Could it really be any worse than what we have now? Every term we would have a fresh new batch of public servants ruling out cronyism. And most importantly, people would be interested in politics, because it might actually effect them personally.

Imagine that one day, heading out to your mailbox, finding the red, white, and blue computer printed summons, opening it up…”Crap, I got governor”.

Honey Bunny

Small Rabbit with Sweater by Debbie Bliss, for my lil niece who named it “Honey Bunny”. I used a hand painted yarn a friend got for me, I didnโ€™t remember the label. I knitted in the round when I could using double needles, and didnโ€™t go back and forth, โ€˜cuz I like to avoid sewing.

Design – Leaf Shawl with Vogue Knitting on the Edge

A shawl to go with my new Anokhi dress. I used Trendsetter Yarns “Dune” and Berrocco Glace. The Dune is mohair with a bit of metallic going through it, and the Glace let me do the leaves on the edge while giving the mohair some body and extra softness. The leaf pattern came from Vogue Knitting on the Edge, and the rest of the shawl was done with alternate rows: P2, yarn under, p2tog / knit across.

Four Baby Hats

Little projects to do while travelling. I did the blue one and the pastel one on the train to and from NYC. The red one I did on the plane from Italy. All three of those are done with Crayon’s Lite hand dyed cotton. The green one I did to finish off the Opal wool sock yarn. The blue hat’s the smallest, the green the biggest, but they’re all kid/baby size. Little Janelle Hoskins got the red one.

Triniti’s Wrap Shirt

Here’s the wrap shirt I made for Trinnii to replace the preemie one. I sized it with 1 year old measurements so I didn’t have to rush. ๐Ÿ™‚ The purple yarn is Sidhar Snowflake, and the trim is Rainbow Mills Crayon’s Lite left over from making Anita’s baby’s hat. Both yarns are cotton. It’s midsummer now, but when I put it on her front to see how much more she had to grow to fit into it, she grabbed it tight and smiled. It’s a really soft yarn, and maybe she already knows purple is her color. She should be able to start wearing it in the fall. Hope to add a picture of her in it. She’s too cute!
